FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Discover where to eat (and, more importantly, where to avoid) with Food for Thought. During Enigma’s Hack Week, I led a team of engineers, data scientists, and designers to create this interactive web app that married New York City Yelp reviews with restaurant violation data.
When journalists file a Freedom of Information request, they often receive hundreds of pages of documents. Many of these will be blurry scans of handwritten entries. For today's data journalists, OCR technology can only do so much to decipher the chicken scrawls. Infoscribe's platform enabled journalists to upload documents for transcription by a community.
Dispatch was an encrypted communication platform, funded by The Brown Institute for Media Innovation. Developed by engineers from Tumblr, Columbia, and Stanford, Dispatch gave journalists a secure way to communicate with their sources in hostile-media environments.
